How to Use Activity Map to Optimise Your Digital Properties

The Activity Map capability within Adobe Analytics enables marketers and business users to investigate visitor interactions, traffic, conversion and pathing in real time to optimise their digital properties. It overlays usage and interaction data on individual elements of webpages, such as buttons, banners, ads, hot-spots and more.

It is easy to implement, requiring no custom development. It works on any website that uses standard HTML and CSS – including responsive designs. It’s free and is available as part of Adobe Analytics.

Easily track clicks on links and buttons across your web properties

It’s simple to add Activity Map to your existing Adobe Analytics implementation, enabling you to capture user click tracking data within Analysis Workspace and to link it back to the rest of your report suite. This means you can quickly understand which web pages visitors are visiting, where they are coming from and what content they are clicking on.

Create an activity system map to identify the activities and policies that support your core competencies

Creating an activity system map requires gathering information from annual and monthly financial statements, mission statement, bylaws, vendor guidelines, news releases and other documents that detail management activities and policies. Then, examine each document to identify statements related to your organization’s objectives, mission and aspirations – especially how it is differentiating itself from its competitors.

Once you have identified the broad themes under which you will be categorizing these statements, single out the management activities and policies that support each core competency. Then, link these to the broad theme that they seem to support on the activity system map. Share this visual workspace with stakeholders and gather their feedback on comment discussion threads or by adding secure document embed links to reports and documents.

Use Activity Map to spot orphan activities and develop strategies for their elimination

Historically, organizations run in silos and have developed a culture of siloing. An activity system map allows you to see the interdependence between the company’s activities, so you can focus your attention on ensuring your core competencies are well-supported.

In addition, you can spot orphan activities that may be undercharging and overdelivering and identify the ones that are most critical to your success. These orphan activities can have a significant impact on your competitive position and profitability, so it’s important to address them promptly and develop effective solutions for their elimination.

Build an activity map to show how your collection’s scholarship is impacting your audience and showcase your digital assets on external sites, such as the homepage of a library or research office.

The map is embeddable and available for display on the homepage of a repository, on the main page of a community or publication (series, journal) or in an e-mail campaign. It also includes an option to configure how it should look on the external site.

It can be used to help educators and students explore map skills that are linked to spatial thinking, such as spatial orientation, map reading and navigation, and geography. It’s an engaging way to teach the basics of map skills and can be adapted for higher or lower grades.
